FAQ
Questions people ask us
Don't see yours? Call us. We're glad to talk it through.
Getting started
How do I start?
Call our office or fill out the admissions form. We ask a few questions, check your insurance and schedule an assessment.
Do I need a referral from a doctor?
No. You can contact us yourself. Some insurance plans require an authorization before certain programs start, and we take care of that with you.
How fast can I be seen?
We aim to schedule assessments quickly, often within a few days. Tell us if things are getting worse so we can prioritize you.
Which program is right for me?
You do not need to know before you call. The assessment tells us whether outpatient therapy, IOP, partial hospitalization or something else fits best.
Crisis help
What should I do if I am in crisis right now?
Call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911. 988 can send a mobile crisis team to you.
Is Fresh Nu Beginnings a 24-hour crisis line?
No. Crisis calls in Virginia go through 988, which is answered 24 hours a day. Our mobile crisis team is one of the teams 988 can send.
Insurance and cost
Do you take Medicaid?
Yes. We accept Virginia Medicaid (Cardinal Care) and work with Cardinal Care health plans. Call us to confirm your specific plan.
What about private insurance?
We work with some commercial plans. Send us your insurance details and we will check your benefits before you start.
Treatment
What is the difference between PHP and IOP?
Partial hospitalization (PHP) runs most of the day, 20 or more hours a week. Intensive outpatient (IOP) is fewer hours across the week so you can keep working or going to school.
Do you prescribe medication?
Psychiatric evaluations and medication management are provided by our partner, Foundation Medical Group, in coordination with your therapist.
Can my family be involved?
Yes, with your permission. Family sessions and education are part of most of our programs.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes. Your health information is protected by federal and Virginia privacy laws, and substance use treatment records have extra protection. We explain the limits, such as safety concerns, at your first visit.
